As of a while ago, Facebook is an important marketing channel that you just can’t ignore. That’s why you’re here!
To better understand what a Facebook Page is, we’ll lay out the most basic differences between a Profile (which you’re probably familiar with) and a Facebook Page:
- A Profile is for a person and a Page is for everything else (business, bands, products, etc.)
- Profiles have friends and Pages have followers or fans
- a Profile can actively friend others, but a Page cannot. A Page requires that other Profiles or Pages find it and click the world-famous "Like" button
Many, when creating a presence for their business on Facebook, choose to create a Profile, but a Fan Page is much more relevant! Read more about the deeper differences between the two and learn why a Fan Page is better for your hostel.
How to Create Page on Facebook
Short and to the point, we’ll focus on Creating a Page on Facebook as quickly as possible. If you already have a Profile for your hostel and want to migrate or transfer it to Page follow these steps.
Step 1 - If you don’t have a Facebook Account
On the Facebook home page, you will find a link that says "Create a Page for a celebrity, band or business." Click on the link and jump to Step 2.
Step 1 - If you have a Facebook Account
Login to your account and click on the following link (or copy / paste it into a new window): https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php
Step 2 - Basic Info
Select the first frame "Local Business or Place", then find and select "Hotel" in the list.
Complete all the fields and accept Facebook’s terms. Setting your hostel as a hotel (there’s no "hostel" option yet!) makes it easy for travelers to find you on Facebook when they use Facebook "Nearby" for local search.
Step 3 - Profile Pic
Choose your profile picture. You can select one from your PC or your website. If you want, you can make it your hostel’s logo. The idea is it should be attractive and represent your business well.
Step 4 - Hostel Details
In this step you have to provide the necessary data (quality over quantity) to position your hostel’s Page in Facebook search. Fill in a description of your hostel, location, etc. It’s important to use keywords to facilitate searches (ie. travel, accommodation, entertainment, Buenos Aires, tourism, backpacking, etc.) Make sure to add your location, so travelers can check-in on Facebook Mobile. The location will also appear in your info and help people find you more easily!
Step 5 - Choose URL
In the final step (optional) choose a url for your Facebook Page. For example, ours is http://facebook.com/banana.desk.pms
This makes life super easy when sharing your link to other people. You can only set it once, so choose wisely!
Now wasn’t that easy? Now the ball is in your court, get to work!
